Viaplay Sport News
Sports news, clips and video, backed by a custom Umbraco newsroom built for live publishing.
Runner-up · Best Editing Experience · Umbraco Awards 2026
Viaplay Sport News brings together news, clips and video selected by Viaplay's sports editors. I built the Next.js site and the custom Umbraco editing experience behind it.
On a news site, the public pages are only half the product. Editors work in the backoffice throughout the day, and during live sport the front page can change from minute to minute. A conventional page editor would have slowed them down and made it difficult to see what was actually live.
I built a newsroom interface inside Umbraco around the way the editors work. Stories can be pulled from incoming feeds and arranged on the site using drag and drop. Dedicated dashboards keep the most important stories visible, so editors can react quickly without searching through the normal CMS structure.
The interface uses Umbraco's own components underneath, but it behaves like a newsroom tool rather than a collection of content forms. The editor and the public site were built together, so the structure inside Umbraco closely matches what appears on the site.
The result is a shorter path from receiving a story to publishing it, with a clearer view of what is live and what needs attention. The editing experience was runner-up for Best Editing Experience at the 2026 Umbraco Awards.
